In what will be remembered as the most exciting, intense game of the season your quail valley varsity boys’ soccer team beat cedar 1-0!!~~
Captains Jaden Espinoza and Anthony Potter~were able to shut down Cedar's forwards time after time. Their combined speed and size has become one of our most valuable assets.~
Jimmy Castillo came back into the game off an injury and scored within 10 seconds on a beautiful touch proving he can play any style of play.
Sergio Ruelas and Adrian Perez were tough in the outside back positions and were able to frustrate a quick attacking~~~Cedar team many times.~
Captain Anderson Lemus and Aaron Pratt~helped the mid defensively for the entire second half when we were pounded by shots from Cedar.~
Nathan Munoz and Isaiah Flores both had incredible games from midfield and played with a sportsmanship and character that shows why they are so essential to the team.~
Travis Hernandez again owned midfield and Cedar had no answer for him except to push him in the back when he had the ball. But Travis proving what a high-level player he is was able to not only keep his head but continue to beat their attack repeatedly without drawing a card. (there were 7 total in this game)
Andrew Nelson showed how coachable he is by being able to fill any position that was open on the field today. He played up top as well as in the mid when having a sub became necessary.~
Trevor Mello played up top as a striker and had a few scoring opportunities of his own today.~
Pedro Alvarez got a taste of the middle school rivalry between Quail Valley and Cedar with front row seats to all the action.~
Our man of the match was absolutely Brandon Quezada, our keeper. Cedar had the wind at their backs second half and kept it on our side 95% of the time testing Brandon over and over again while he stayed focused and blocked everything.~
With the final amazing play of the game, Cedar lined up for a direct free kick right on the edge of the 18 that deflected off of our four-man wall into the air for Brandon to jump up and recover. It was a beautiful defensive play and Coach Autumn says that hearing those three short whistles to end the game was probably the best sound she’s ever heard.~
